Investment Decision Support Technology (IDST)
Dayton, Ohio - October 29, 2010 - Frontier Technology, Inc (FTI) received a Phase III SBIR contract award from the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), Sensor Directorate, to continue the design, development, and deployment of decision support technologies. The purpose of the Investment Decision Support Technology Program is to continue the design, development, deployment and commercialization of the decision support technologies developed in previous AFRL Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I and Phase II efforts entitled “Methodology and Toolset for Investment Decision Support.” The initial SBIR research prototyped next generation decision support technologies to assess the benefits of performance vs. cost to arrive at best value or best investment. Effective decision making can be enhanced with a distributed support environment which applies advanced cost estimation, prioritization, modeling and simulation, computer science and engineering tools in an integrated decision framework.
With increased emphasis on affordability and return-on-investment, AFRL has developed technology for effective cost and affordability analysis tools to help make the business case arguments for investment decisions. Under the previous SBIR, AFRL developed and refined PC-based cost evaluation and decision support tools into a prototype distributed collaborative decision support environment named the I-CAIV® (Integrated Cost As an Independent Variable®) tool, to evaluate the affordability and return-on-investment of a system and technology alternatives, and interfaced it with the Integrated Cost Estimation® (ICE™) tool.
